Procedures for Resolving Disciplinary Issues Columbia County CERT Disciplinary GuidelinesDo's and Don'ts for Columbia County CERT MembersDon’t wear your CERT vest or County ID badge unless you are on duty and officially participating in a Columbia County CERT event or activation. Do remember that when you are participating in a Columbia County CERT event or activation, your behavior reflects on the entire team as well as the CERT program in the county and even the national program. Don't confront or argue with members of the public or the team when you are representing CERT. If there are difficult situations, involve your strike team leader, section chief, or team coordinator. Do smile and be pleasant when interacting with the public. Do remember that we are not sworn law enforcement personnel or professional first responders. If you see a public safety hazard or illegal conduct (for example, a drunk driver), contact the Sheriff’s Office personnel on duty or call 911. Don't talk or write to the press regarding Columbia County CERT. Always refer them to the team coordinator or media/public relations coordinator. Do behave ethically, observe safety procedures, follow the chain of command and directions received from your immediate leader. Don't consume alcoholic beverages, use illegal drugs (or medications that may impair your judgment or ability to perform), or carry firearms or other weapons on your person while on duty as a Columbia County CERT team member.
